The pastel is first crumbled onto the paper in small amounts, then smoothed across the surface by hand. The mountain areas are made using a dip pen with fine nib, or mechanical pencil. In this image I have also used a small amount of carborundum on the lower portion, which in certain lights may have a subtle glinting quality, similar to in the sun sand.
Inspired by time spent in the Scottish Highlands, this work reflects on the sense of vastness and presence encountered within mountain landscapes.
This piece is sold unframed and will need to be framed with a mount, behind glass (non-reflective recommended) in order to be displayed.

About the Artist
Working in mixed-media drawing and painting, my work explores landscape as a language of reverence, imagination, and the numinous, with a particular focus on mountain forms.
I am an elected Professional Member of the Scottish Society of Artists (SSA), and have exhibited widely across the UK, including the Royal Scottish Academy Annual, Royal West of England Academy Annual, Visual Arts Scotland, Scottish Society of Artists exhibitions, and other group and solo shows.
