Online Psychotherapy in the UK
Online psychotherapy allows us to meet regularly wherever you live in the UK, without the need to travel to a consulting room.
Although we meet through a screen, the work can still develop continuity and psychological depth. What matters is that we can see and hear one another clearly, and that you have a private space in which you can give the session your full attention.
This page explains how online sessions work and what you will need in order to take part. For a wider introduction to my approach and the people I tend to work with, begin with the Psychotherapy Welcome Page.
Benefits of online psychotherapy
Online sessions can make regular therapy possible when location, mobility, or other commitments might otherwise make attending difficult.
Working from familiar surroundings may also help you settle into the session and create a consistent therapy space of your own.
There is no travel time, and appointments can often be fitted more readily around work or other responsibilities.
If you choose to use art materials during therapy, you can work with your own materials and have them available within your usual environment.
Sessions take place through Google Meet. You do not need a Google account to join, and I will send you a private meeting link before the appointment.
Requirements for online therapy
For online therapy to provide a consistent and private setting, I ask that:
-
You join from a room where you can speak freely without being overheard or interrupted.
-
You use a computer or tablet with a reliable internet connection. Mobile phones are generally too limiting for regular sessions.
-
Your camera remains on, with enough light for us to see one another clearly. I do not offer audio-only therapy.
-
Your device is positioned so that you can sit comfortably and remain visible without needing to hold or repeatedly adjust it.
-
The session remains your sole focus, rather than taking place while you are travelling, working, caring for someone, or carrying out another activity.
-
Neither of us records the session. Clients must not use AI transcription, note-taking, recording, or summarising tools during meetings.
-
Any art materials you wish to use are within reach, with a suitable surface available nearby.
I do not use AI assistants, automated transcription, or meeting-summary features within therapy sessions.
If we decide that online work does not provide the right setting for your needs, I can help you think about more suitable alternatives.
Frequency and duration
Online therapy may be weekly or fortnightly, depending on what appears most appropriate and sustainable. Weekly meetings usually provide the strongest continuity, while fortnightly work can suit people who need a less frequent arrangement.
Therapy may be open-ended or take place over a shorter agreed period. We can consider the most suitable pattern during the initial consultation and review it as the work develops.
You can find full details of fees, session frequency, and how therapy begins on the Psychotherapy Options page.
Beginning online therapy
We begin with an initial consultation in which we can talk about what has brought you to therapy and whether meeting online feels suitable for the kind of work you are seeking.
There is no obligation to continue. If we both decide to begin, we can agree a regular meeting time and an initial pattern of sessions.
You can read more about the therapeutic process and relationship, or view practical information about fees and beginning therapy.
