The pastel is first crumbled onto the paper in small amounts, then smoothed across the surface by hand. The mountain areas are made using a dip pen with fine nib.

This work explores the mountainous seascape as a threshold between visible landscape and the deeper qualities we sense within it. When making this image I was living in Scotland and longing for the storm ravished coastline of the north west in autumn. I intended this to evoke that presence of unfathomable power, invigorating and unnerving in its ceaseless motion, which one can sense when braced again a storm. The desire to embody and unite with that presence in some way.

This work on paper has been professionally framed in a bespoke wooden frame.
