The pastel is first crumbled onto the paper in small amounts, then smoothed across the surface by hand. The mountain areas are made using a dip pen with fine nib.
This image was made after staying on Easedale, a very small island off the west coast of mainland Scotland. It is part of the 'slate islands', and can only be accessed by a small boat which ferries passenger across the stretch of water that seperates it from the isle of Seil. Once a focal point of the slate industry, production ceased after one particularly ferocious storm deluged the quarries.
This piece is sold unframed and will need to be framed with a mount, behind glass (non-reflective recommended) in order to be displayed.
If you have any questions about the work or framing, you are welcome to get in touch.
