Practical Information
Session Fees & Payment
-
£65 per one-hour therapy session / initial consultation

-
Monthly meetings of 90 minutes are £90. The first meeting would be a standard 1 hour initial consultation.

-
Payment for the initial consultation is due at the time of booking in order to confirm the appointment. I will email you an invoice once we have agreed a time. Further payments are to be made in advance of, or at the time of each appointment.

-
All payments are currently via bank transfer.
Appointment Times
It is usually preferable to have consistency with the timing of meetings, as there can be practical and psychological benefits to this. I can offer some flexibility if you have a changing schedule due to work, study, or other commitments.

Tuesday and Thursday — 7:00am to 7:45pm
Friday and Saturday — 7:00am to 1:00pm - Available once or twice each month.
Psychotherapy Options
Frequency of sessions

I ask psychotherapy clients to choose between these two options.

-
Weekly: We aim to meet each week, but due to factors that can affect us both (holidays, illness, etc) I think of this as 3 or more sessions per month.

-
Twice per month: We can arrange a regular fortnightly pattern if preferred, but when the usual time is not possible I ask clients to be flexible about arranging an alternative, to ensure a minimum of 2 meetings each month.

Monthly meetings
For those not seeking psychotherapy, but interested in exploring the themes I specialise in.

Monthly meetings offer something slightly different, and are best thought of as individual consultations, rather than an alternative or replacement for psychotherapy sessions.
These meetings are conversations to stimulate reflection and new ideas. Usually clients will share something of my own interests in relation to art, spirituality, nature, or depth psychology. For example, the time might be used to give attention to your own artistic and creative work, dream material, or discuss what has been inspiring you recently.

Reflective Practice for professionals. You could use the time and space provided by monthly meetings as a way of supporting and enriching your own work, in relation to the themes mentioned above. (Counsellors and therapists - Please be aware that I don't offer clinical supervision at the present time.)

Duration of therapy

How long we work together for is always your decision, and I can help you to consider what will work best for you.

-
Open-ended: I regularly work with people beyond 6 months and up to several years, if the client chooses to and is experiencing a continued benefit from the therapy. Having no set number of sessions or end date allows for working in greater depth, and can be necessary for creating lasting change, or to provide 'holding' during difficult times. The therapy needs to retain a sense of purpose, but this can be more exploratory in nature. We review at regular intervals to check therapy continues to meet your needs.

-
Short-term: Between 4 - 12 sessions. You may feel you need just a few sessions to talk about a specific problem, think through a difficult situation, or focus on a chosen theme over a fixed period of time. The therapy is naturally more defined in its scope, and at the outset we will discuss what is reasonable to expect in a brief period of therapeutic work.

Beginning Therapy
Our first meeting is a gentle yet thorough conversation to consider:

-
What brings you to therapy
-
Hopes and expectations
-
Why now feels like the right time

The aim is to find out if the kind of therapy I offer is a good match for your requirements, and whether we are well suited for working together.
Towards the end of the meeting I will ask about your experience of it, and what you might want to happen next. There is no obligation to continue with further sessions, and if you would like time to consider the options that is absolutely fine.

If we both agree to begin therapy, I usually suggest an initial commitment to three sessions to get a feel for the rhythm of it, and have a better idea of what the therapy is like, before making decisions about continuing beyond that.

Beginning therapy is by mutual agreement. In email communications prior to the initial appointment I will try to get a sense of what you need from therapy, so I can let you know at that stage if it is clear I will not be able to assist. However, meeting for an initial consultation is viewed as a 'one-off', and is not a promise from me of further sessions.
The nature of psychotherapy means we must both enter into this meeting free of obligation. My decision about working together will be largely based upon whether I have the appropriate knowledge, skills, and experience to meet your needs. Additionally there are considerations about whether the type of therapy I offer will be appropriate for an individual, which can only be known once we have met, and discussed in greater detail.
On a practical level, I also consider whether it is likely a prospective client will be able to make timely payments, attend appointments as arranged, and communicate effectively between sessions for planning and administration.
Cancellations & Rescheduling
I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session.

Within 48 hours the full fee is payable if the session is cancelled (even if you hope to reschedule), or is not attended. This applies in most situations, including unforseen ill health or transport difficulties.
